Project Brief

The first phase had to be completed in time for the office and control room to be relocated into their newly refurbished building. Once the first phase had been completed, the office staff were relocated so that phase two could commence. Phase two comprised the refurbishment of the old office block into a meeting room and the fitting out of the canteen area.

Careful consideration had to be given to the logistics of the plant’s control-room and coordinating with Watercare’s on site Electrical Engineer. Interruption to any service could have had a detrimental effect to the plant’s operation, so detailed coordination between the construction and operational plant was carried out.

Data cabling required a complete upgrade from cat 4 to cat 6 high speed data cabling whilst the plant was still using old cabling, this meant extremely careful switching of the client’s computer systems and process controls as only one shut down was possible. All cabling ports and data systems were worked to a non-negotiable client identified drop dead date. This was achieved and the client was able to commission systems earlier than they had programmed.

This project comprised the internal building upgrade including a new reception / waiting area, open plan offices, server room toilets, kitchens, canteen area, meeting rooms, library, sick bay, file storage area and plant room. Plant had to remain operational throughout the refurbishment requiring the project to be split into two phases. As this WTP supplies a large percentage of Auckland’s water, it could not be shut down at any stage of the project and all equipment and computer controls had to remain operational throughout.
