Project Brief

Mainzeal was awarded the tender for this project, which was subsequently converted to a Collaborative Working Agreement (CWA) in conjunction with the Department of Corrections and Stephenson & Turner.

The facility is on 17ha, and is surrounded by a 1.5km-long, 5m-high precast concrete wall. The design of the 350-bed prison is a campus concept, with the primary focus on criminal rehabilitation to reduce re-offending.

Department of Corrections
The prison accommodates male adults and youths, and has been designed for future expansion to accommodate 450 inmates.

Working with WINZ and local interests, Mainzeal instigated a trade training initiative to upskill the local labour base. Approximately 2000 workers were involved in the construction, with a peak workforce of 650.

The success of this project, which was delivered within the CWA cost and time expectations, led to the appointment of Mainzeal as a principal group stakeholder in the Spring Hill Corrections Facility project. This was also constructed under a CWA arrangement.
