Project Brief

All construction projects have deadlines, but not many builders have to undertake the total refit of a busy restaurant while it is still in operation. For Mainzeal Interiors, the major renovation of the McDonald’s Greenlane restaurant, designed by Creative Spaces, posed just such a challenge.

Mainzeal had just four months to totally refit the restaurant – with all construction carried out while McDonald’s continued its 24-hour operation. From the outset, a collaborative team approach was taken. This ensured the completion date was achieved and the restaurant was handed over to McDonald’s in time for the 2007 Christmas period.

Much of the construction was carried out after midnight, when the dining room was closed for a few hours. When the time came to rebuild the kitchen, the restaurant closed for three weeks.

The hand-over of the project was staged to ensure the safety of patrons and staff, and to ensure the restaurant operations could largely continue unhindered. The restaurant was divided into sections, with each section completed before work began on the next. The ground floor alone was handed over in five stages.

The new-look McDonald’s boasts an extensively altered facade and extension to the rear of the building. A variety of seating areas was provided, and bright graphics, joinery and furnishings create a dynamic, inviting atmosphere.
