Project Brief

A major revamp of Whangarei High & District Court was completed in March.

The project comprises a new 1200m² extension to the Court and extensive alterations and refurbishment to the existing building, increasing the Courthouse area by 40%.

A specific programme was executed to ensure that an alternative courtroom was established before the existing courtroom was deactivated. Temporary space was created in advance to accommodate people being relocated from their current work areas to make way for construction.

Minimal disruption to the construction work was implemented progressively and managed in phases.

By its very nature, construction is disruptive. Noise is unacceptable, therefore work methods had to accommodate this requirement. Our subcontractors all understood the challenges.

Specific work was undertaken outside Court hours to minimise disturbance from noise, dust and fumes.

At the start of the project, we established communication protocol –taking on board any operational concerns that the stakeholders had.
