Project Brief

Clearview Primary School is a totally new school constructed for an initial capacity of 400 student spaces. As the predicted growth continues in the region, the school has been designed so that a future stage two could easily expand the school’s capacity up to 600 student spaces.

This Greenfield project included the construction of 17 classrooms, plus associated amenities buildings including administration, library, hall/Gym, caretakers shed, vehicle parking and associated site works/playgrounds and fields.

The project was a GMP contract with a full design and construct element. The proposed construction programme was extremely tight as the new school was required to be completed and operational by the start of February, ready for the first school term in 2010.

The works commenced on the site in mid-April 2009 and were completed, as programmed, in less than 300 days, which is a record for new school construction in New Zealand.

The project has utilised a number of initiatives so as to achieve the very demanding programme constraints along with adding value through sustainable construction methods. An example of this was substituting traditional timber framing with lightweight steel frames.

The choice of exterior cladding materials was also determined with the programme in mind along with the requirement to reduce the need for significant future maintenance.

The project was officially opened by the Prime minister, John Key on the 11th March 2010.

Mainzeal received a Gold Award in the 2010 RMB Commercial Project Awards for the Clearview Primary School project.
