Mainzeal sees sustainability in broader terms than just the environment, important though this is. Our view of sustainability embraces a better quality of life through efficient use of resources, continual social progress and stable economic growth as well as careful stewardship of the environment.

Mainzeal are in a unique position to provide sustainability input.

  • We have successfully managed a Design and Build NZGBC Green Star project with the Vogel Campus.
  • We are the first building company to be awarded a Ministry for the Environment Green Ribbon Award for our contribution to a sustainable construction industry in New Zealand. 
  • We have also won the inaugural CCA Sustainability Award for our work on the Project Century project using crushed glass as a partial aggregate source. 
  • Mainzeal’s Environmental Management Systems are compliant with ISO 14001

EXPERIENCE IN GREEN STAR

To date Mainzeal have successfully delivered four Green Star projects with a further four currently under construction, including the 6 star rated Geyser building in Parnell. This experience has enabled Mainzeal to build up the supplier base and management tools to ensure that the environmentally preferred products and materials that meet the Green Star benchmarks are procured as specified and installed on site.

Incorporating Green Star into trade contracts, site inductions and tool box talks ensures that everyone on site is up to speed with the project’s Green Star commitments.

Certified Green Star projects delivered to date include:

  • Mahinawa Special Needs School, Wellington, 5-star Design

  • Stephenson & Turner, Wellington, Office fitout 6-star Built

  • Vogel Integrated Campus, Wellington,  4-star Design

  • 8 on Nugent Building B, Auckland 4-star Design

Projects under construction and targeting a rating include:

  • MSS Building, Ohakea, 5-star Design and Built

  • Geyser, Auckland, 6-star Design and Built

  • Mainzeal House, Auckland, 5-star Built

  • Mainzeal House, office fitout, Auckland, 5-star Built

GREEN STAR ACCREDITATION

Mainzeal has been a corporate member of the New Zealand Green Building Council since November 2006 and our CEO Peter Gomm is a member of the Board.

Many of our staff have attended the NZGBC Green Star Training and we have 25 NZGBC Green Star Accredited Professionals across the organisation. 

Mainzeal Sustainability Manager, Liz Root is available to assist Mainzeal projects meet their Green Star objectives. Liz joined Mainzeal at the beginning of 2011, coming from the New Zealand Green Building Council where she had been Technical Manager since 2009.  Prior to that Liz held similar positions in Australia and the United Kingdom.
